Rehearsal Tonight

We are having choir rehearsal tonight at 7pm.  The practice list includes the Propers for Sunday 3 in OT, which can be printed from here:  http://musicasacra.com/books/sep/037_SEP_Third-Sunday-OT.pdf

We got away from using all the Propers during Christmastide, simply because of lack of rehearsals.  But I want to keep using the Propers at the 9am Mass.  I truly feel that if we are ABLE to do these, we SHOULD do these.  Hymns can be good, but there’s no way to make good music for Mass out of bad music (like last Sunday – Here I Am, Lord – doesn’t it heartily fail by comparison to the Propers??)  I would much rather sing the Mass than inject music  into the Liturgy – especially weak music.

We’ll also be working on O Bone Jesu for Holy Thursday.

Schola will review Locus Iste, Ave Maria, and O Magnum Mysterium.  We’ll also begin Durufle’s setting of Ubi Caritas tonight.  You won’t want to miss this!  We’ll also be singing this for Holy Thursday.

  1. Angelika says:

Amen, brother! In singing the propers, I can be at peace, knowing that I am expressing what the Church wants me to express, rather than the lyrics of some of those songs by composers with an agenda, which are of dubious value for the liturgy at best, and outright heretical at worst.

This is what makes it worthwhile to spend 4 hours in the car each week.

Oh, and thanks for the heads-up on the selections. I love to be able to get my “ducks in a row” before rehearsal.
